3 Must-Do Activities for Spring and Summer

The cold days of winter are finally behind us and soon we'll all be back to soaking up the sun and enjoying the outdoors. From a cool camping trip to fishing from the back of your truck, you'll want to make sure you're prepared for the summer so you don't miss out on any activities, and there is plenty to do aside from lying on a beach towel at the Jersey Shore in pursuit of a Snooki-like tan. Road trip season is officially upon us; don't let the nice weather pass you by without giving Mother Nature a run for her money! Here are Gentilini Motors' picks for some of the best spring and summer activities in the area:

Take a Hike

The summer sun can beat down on you, but gallivanting out to the forest will provide you with shade and adventure. This is a great way to stay relatively cool – although, on much of the East Coast, you'll still have to deal with the sticky humidity when it gets really hot out. Make sure you have a reliable pair of hiking boots, and bring plenty of water and snacks (such as trail mix and beef jerky) to quench your thirst and hunger along the way. Bringing the dog? Make sure Fido is up-to-date on his shots and flea and tick meds, and carry a small first aid kit in your vehicle just in case; the last thing you need is a trip to the vet or doctor on the ride home.

Something's Fishy

What better way to spend the summer than fishing for dinner down the Shore? Check out these NJ beaches that you are allowed to drive on for saltwater fishing. Bring the beer and your personalized koozie, and make sure you let the excess air out from your tires before driving onto the sand, as higher tire pressure will make it difficult to retain traction on this surface. You'll also need four-wheel drive in order to get onto the beach; there are plenty of South Jersey Ford dealers that can set you up with a suitable vehicle for the multiple terrains that you may encounter over the summer.

What's SUP?

Most people have been kayaking and canoeing, but how about something new? Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUPing) is fun and relaxing way to enjoy the calm waters of a bay or lake. Though they look like surfboards, these boards have much greater stability, and you really don't need to be as coordinated as you might think to operate them. In fact, they are so easy to stand on, that SUP yoga classes have even become a popular activity. Most watercraft activity centers that carry rental kayaks, etc., will carry SUPs.
